Cooling Systems for Battery Container

 

Energy storage system cooling equipment is a liquid-cooled chiller used in the energy storage industry. The temperature range is -45°C~55°C. It is mainly used in applications such as energy storage containers, energy storage battery cabinets, and energy storage battery heat dissipation.

At present, there are three main cooling methods: natural cooling, forced air cooling and liquid cooling, which are used in different occasions, so how to choose various cooling methods?

(1) Natural cooling. Natural cooling is a cooling method that uses the high thermal conductivity of metal materials to remove heat and dissipate heat into the air. That is, in the case of natural convection without specific wind speed requirements, the heat sinks used are copper-aluminum sheets, aluminum extrusions, machining or alloy castings.

(2) Forced air cooling. Forced convection is used for heat dissipation. When there is a special wind speed requirement, the wind speed can be convected through a dedicated or system-level fan. Equipped with fan radiator, high-density gear assembly and heat exchanger, it can generate a hedging or cross airflow environment, so as to accelerate the removal of heat and improve heat dissipation efficiency. Air cooling can also be used in conjunction with fluid phase change heat dissipation technology. Fluid phase change generally uses closed copper heat pipes to dissipate heat through rapid circulation of liquids with low boiling points that evaporate and condense. If the product has high density and space constraints, heat pipes integrated in the heat sink can further improve the heat dissipation capability.

(3) Liquid cooling technology. Liquid cooling application refers to the use of a liquid-cooled cooling plate (also called a water-cooled heat sink) installed at the heat source, in conjunction with a heat exchanger and a heat exchange pump, to dissipate heat in a fluid circulation manner. In general, the liquid cooling technology of the cooling equipment of the energy storage system is applied in the environment where the forced convection or phase change system cannot achieve the heat dissipation effect and the thermal energy density is high.

There are several cooling methods for the battery energy storage system, which are mainly related to the cost and efficiency of the system. It is necessary to comprehensively consider the reliability, efficiency, and economy of the system.
