How to Deal with the Leakage of Refrigerant from the Evaporator of the Chiller?

Since there are more welding ports on the left and right sides of the evaporator, there are more leakage points. The leakage of the newly installed evaporator is mainly due to the poor welding skills of the employees of the evaporator manufacturer. It is not completely fused with the solder, resulting in the welding of the weld, slag, and non-smooth.

For the newly installed chiller, when you open the shut-off valve of the outdoor unit and remove the air from the indoor unit, sometimes you can hear the leaking sound of the indoor unit evaporator with your ears. It can be seen that the leakage of the evaporator and its solder joints cannot be ignored.

If the evaporator is found to be leaking, be sure to remove it and weld it to avoid the hot flame from baking and deforming the evaporator’s plastic casing. The method of disassembly is:

(1) Find the leak and mark it well.

(2) If there is refrigerant in the system, the refrigerant must be stored in the outdoor unit first.

(3) Use two 8-inch or 10-inch spanners to remove the connection lock nut of the indoor unit, and remove the electrical box on the right side of the indoor unit.

(4) After removing the fixed pipeline and splint of the evaporator, remove the left and right positioning screws of the evaporator.

(5) Gently lift the pipe from the back of the indoor unit with the left hand to move the evaporator forward; pull the evaporator out 5 cm with the right hand, then rotate the evaporator 90° with both hands and pull it out along the pipe. Pay attention to the operation with both hands, and do not knock the fins down. After the evaporator is removed, place it on a flat, clean place and use a dry cloth to wipe the oil off the leak. Re-weld the leaking spot with silver welding. After pressing and checking to make sure that there is no leak, put the evaporator back on the plastic frame of the indoor unit in the same order as just disassembled.
