Advantages of Cascade Refrigeration Chiller Systems

 

A cascade refrigeration chiller system is a low temperature refrigeration system that uses two or more refrigerants and is combined with a heat exchanger (condensing evaporator) in two or more systems. For cascade refrigeration chiller system, it consists of two independent refrigeration systems, one is a high temperature system and the other is a low temperature system, the low temperature system is used to cool the environmental laboratory, and the high temperature system is used to cool the gas discharged from the low temperature system , so that it condenses at a lower temperature to achieve the purpose of reducing the compression ratio and improving the gas transmission coefficient.

The advantage of this cascade refrigeration chiller system is that the chiller uses medium pressure refrigerant suitable for high temperature systems, and high pressure refrigerant suitable for low temperature systems. Because the specific capacity of high-pressure refrigerant gas is much smaller than that of medium-pressure refrigerant at low temperature, the cascade refrigeration capacity of the same type of compressor is several times that of two-stage low-temperature compression refrigeration. Choosing a cascade refrigeration chiller system can save a lot of investment and construction area. Also, at cryogenic temperatures, the suction pressure of the high pressure refrigerant is greater than or close to one atmosphere, and it does not seep into the system as often as a two-stage cryogenic system.

An engineer once used R13 as the low temperature stage and R22 as the high temperature stage for a comparison of cascade refrigeration systems. Under the same cooling capacity, the investment of a two-stage compression refrigeration system chiller is more than three times that of a cascade chiller. The installed power of the motor, the power of the two-stage compression refrigeration system is more than twice that of the cascade refrigeration system. Due to the large number of compressors in the two-stage refrigeration system and the increase in friction power, the energy consumption of the two-stage compressor is more than 1.5 times that of the cascade refrigeration system.
