Chiller System in Hospital

Hospital chillers are most commonly used to keep equipment running smoothly, and they are also used to lower patient temperatures and keep medical samples at the appropriate temperature during certain surgeries.

Chillers are used in a variety of applications throughout the hospital industry. Typically, proper cooling in hospital applications means keeping life-saving equipment running smoothly, leaving little room for error. Therefore, hospital facilities are required to consider when implementing cooling solutions. Must be very careful.

Typically hospital chillers are used in the following 3 applications:

1. In hospital applications, the first industrial chillers were used to remove heat from the patient’s body during certain procedures. Common procedures that required removing heat from body parts or lowering the patient’s body temperature were: hair and tattoo removal, laser eye surgery, and venous treat.

2. Hospital chillers are used to cool equipment that generates large amounts of heat; MRI machines, PET and CT scanners, lasers, X-ray machines, and linear accelerators all generate large amounts of heat and require rapid cooling to operate for long periods of time.

3. Industrial chillers are often used to maintain sensitive medical samples (i.e. blood samples) at ideal temperatures, and these types of industrial chillers are often found in laboratories where medical testing is performed.

NMR machine industrial chiller

An MRI machine uses powerful magnetic fields, radio waves, and computers to produce detailed images of the inside of your body. The magnets inside the MRI machine must be kept cool for the machine to work effectively. When it overheats, the magnet, and therefore the MRI machine, will stop working properly.

Air-cooled or water-cooled industrial chillers are used to transfer heat from the MRI machine, with water-cooled chillers transferring heat to the circulating process fluid and air-cooled chillers transferring heat to the ambient air.

CT scanner industrial chiller

Doctors use CT scans to look for blood clots, tumors, fractures, etc. CT scanners contain an X-ray tube that heats up quickly and requires a cooling time of 10 to 30 minutes. This cooling time delays patient care and increases medical costs. When this excess cooling time is eliminated with a medical industrial chiller, medical facilities are able to help more patients.

PET scan

PET scanners can produce three-dimensional images of body processes. Their operation generates so much heat that the scanner cannot continue to operate without coolant. To prevent the machine from malfunctioning, the heat must be removed.

Linear accelerator industrial chiller

Linear accelerators are most commonly used for external beam therapy in cancer patients. These machines deliver high-energy X-rays or electrons to the patient’s tumor area. However, X-ray tubes produce a lot of sound, and these tubes require a constant stream of coolant to function properly.
