Mold temperature control is crucial in various manufacturing processes, especially in injection molding. This article elaborates on its significance. It affects the quality of products, such as surface finish, dimensional accuracy, and internal stress. Different plastics have diverse optimal mold temperature ranges. For example, for plastics like PE, PP, HIPS, and ABS with good fluidity, a lower mold temperature around 60°C can reduce stress cracking. While for PC, hard PVC, PPO, and PSF with poor fluidity, a higher mold temperature between 80 - 120°C helps decrease internal stress. The control of mold temperature also impacts the production cycle. In the injection molding cycle, about 80% of the time is for cooling. Precise mold temperature control can shorten this cooling time, thus increasing productivity. Additionally, factors influencing mold temperature and common control methods are also discussed in this article.
